SHARING STORIES WITH YOU AND FROM YOU
#FallintoAdventure TRAVEL PLANNER
"Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile" - William Cullen Bryant
Days by the lake, summer vacations, and backyard barbeques might be in the rearview mirror as summer draws to a close, but that doesn’t mean the outdoor adventures need to end. Now is the perfect time to seize the opportunity to #FallintoAdventure and plan a trip on Recreation.gov! We can’t think of a better way to embrace the season than taking a hike, packing up for a quick camping trip, or biking the trails to soak up the stunning fall colors. To help you find your next autumn excursion, we’ve pulled together an estimate for the state of fall colors across the country.
Fall Foliage Estimates
Peak Foliage Estimates Map
Source: Foliage changes are just an estimate based on information available from U.S. Forest Service, National Forest Foundation, NOAA, and other sources. This timeline is not guaranteed and is only a prediction. The best way to confirm for yourself is to get out there, check out the fall colors near you, and #BringHomeAStory.

Image of The General Sherman Tree
DID YOU KNOW?
Near the southern Sierra Nevadas of California in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks lies something truly *tree*mendous – General Sherman. The General Sherman Tree is the world's largest tree, standing more than 275 feet (83 m) tall and clocking in at over 36 feet (11 m) in diameter. Although there may be trees that are taller or wider, none can claim the combined size, weight, and width of this behemoth. To put things in perspective, the largest branch of General Sherman, which is almost 7 feet in diameter, is larger than most trees east of the Mississippi River. The General Sherman Tree is something you *wood*n’t believe unless you saw it, so consider planning your own visit to check out this world wonder.

Android App is Now Available

Adventure is at your fingertips with the new Recreation.gov app for Android devices. The app debuted on iOS in April. From booking a quick camping trip to planning a cross-country dream vacation, the app helps you find and reserve campsites, check location details for your visit, and access your information during your trip.

The Recreation.gov app is your on-the-go solution for searching thousands of campgrounds and individual campsites across the country, reviewing personalized recommendations based on your location and real-time availability, and easily comparing and booking campsites. The new app also delivers the convenience of accessing your account information and reservations from almost anywhere on your phone or tablet.

The current version of the app doesn’t support making reservations for tickets, permits, and day-use facilities or purchasing passes. We’re continuously working to add new features though, so be on the lookout for these reservations and other exciting updates to the app.
